University leaders have conceded more needs to be done to protect international students from Chinese government surveillance on campus

, but say the federal government needs to take the lead on serious foreign interference matters.exposed the growing influence of Chinese nationalism at Australian universities

The report, released on Wednesday and based on interviews with 24 pro-democracy Chinese students and 22 academics at universities across the country, concluded universities were failing to protect students from. A number of students said their campus activities had resulted in their parents in China being hauled into police stations.

Liberal Senator James Paterson, chair of Parliament’s powerful intelligence and security committee, said the report was further proof the Chinese Communist Party was orchestrating a “campaign of fear and intimidation against students” and “universities are not doing enough to stop it”.

University of NSW deputy vice-chancellor George Williams said it was clear there was more work to be done in protecting students, but support was needed from Australia’s national security agencies.

Uni’s pandering to CCP. Feds only interested in protecting coal mine owners (or rich ppl). What hope do any Chinese pro democracy students have Future of Aus is screwed by short term narrow vision. But hey .. Be reassured: “CCP don’t interfere in other domestic politics” 🤣

We need to protect our publish education system from falling into the CCP's hands. Hands off Australia. BanTheCCP

This should have been considered many years ago when OZ universities began 'selling' degrees & churning out poorly skilled grads instead of being real teaching institutions. In Europe, uni fees are low hence the high proportion of well educated population - not so in OZ

Unsustainable business model...

Have less international students 🤷🏻‍♂️

From my personal experience students of any nation studying in Australia need protection from the universities themselves

The whole country needs help from Chinese government surveillance

Fear mongering much🙄🙄🙄 I hope we don’t see the headline ‘Asian students being attacked.’ in a few weeks. And HRW?!?! It’s beggars belief, after they have been debunked and discredited so many times you still treat them as a credible source.

Wake up , Chinese CCP green soldiers are here as students and residents are reporting to the CCP bosses every day .

Any student found collaborating with the PRC should be immediately deported.

His persistence and humility are both very inspiring. None of the melb uni grads i know would even think of, let alone contemplate doing something like this, which is why he will be more successful than any one of them.

Does having a university degree mean you’ll get paid more? This is a tricky question to answer, Dr Kirstin Ferguson says, but the more important decision for anyone considering this issue is to think about your passions, and what career you want to pursue. kirstinferguson No kirstinferguson Not immediately but later I career kirstinferguson Diverting the focus outside of money. What about roles? Who has on average has the more important roles in society? Can non-degree holders shape the laws of the country? Do you need a degree to treat medical issues? Who gets to teach children? Who gets to decide what goes on TV?
