Last week, the Tk'emlups te Secwepemc First Nation revealed it had discovered what it believed are the bodies of 215 First Nations children who had been buried on the grounds of a residential school in Kamloops, B.C.
Pat Pratt-Malbeuf, a ceremonial elder in Quinton, Sask., with four generations of family members sent to residential schools, is calling for a spiritual ceremony a path forward. "I'm willing to look at that, that certainly would come within the bailiwick of the justice minister and the criminal law power and I'm certainly open to that," he said in the interview.
When it comes to examining these burial grounds for any other unmarked graves, researchers believe that the affected communities need to be consulted beforehand.
Ok I need help understanding how they know it’s 215? If they haven’t dug up the bodies and graves maybe it 300 maybe it’s 200. Ground radar just gives you a picture doesn’t show proof. Don’t hate on this trying to understand is all.
What steps were taken by the RCMP when so many children went missing? I can’t imagine the disappearances would not have raised serious suspicions. Apologies be damned. It’s time for the truth. Time for the children to be home. Time for justice. Sorry doesn’t cut it.
Time to return the land to indigenous, but all infrastructure should be destroyed everything that came from European settlers either destroyed or removed out of this land. The land should be returned with nothing left except nature. Indigenous can start completely from scratch.
The indigenous first nation people are real owners of these lands we call our home. Could the horribl event be called genocide of first nations?
