UT-Austin, which is in the state with the second-largest number of Latinos nationally, has enrolled enough full-time Latino undergraduates to be considered a Hispanic-Serving Institution, or HSI. - NBCLatino

" by steering students to vocational jobs rather than college, administering unfair testing, automatically admitting descendants of mostly white alumni and providing unequal funding to schools and colleges attended by Latinos, among other tactics.

“It’s not simply about bodies in seats,” González said about reaching the HSI threshold. “It is about the institution ensuring those [students] thrive and succeed. It means providing the resources, financial, infrastructural and cultural resources, that they need to do that.” In fall 2020, UT-Austin’s four-year graduation rate for Hispanics was 64.3 percent, compared to 72.2 percent for all students. The 2020 four-year graduation rate for white students was 76.6 percent.

“That’s not insignificant. ... They are a flagship. They are keeping their focus on students and what more they can do to ensure the students are supported at their institution,” Santiago said. “If we are focused on serving our Latinx students, our Hispanic students, our Latino students, then we are also focused on serving all of our students on campus,” Hernandez said.

NBCLatino No one in America should fear for their life or made to feel like a second class citizen simply because of their appearance (race and/or sex) or for any other reasons.

NBCLatino Diversity is America's strength. We should all freely and willingly come together and realize that diversity is a critical factor in maintaining the values and the idea of America-- equal treatment, equal opportunity and equal justice for all.

NBCLatino It's time to bring an end to the perpetuation of inequities perpetrated by white Americans against all other Americans. Almost all our societal ills are directly caused by the lily white gov't policies, cultural biases, white privilege & fragility used to marginalize all others.

NBCLatino White Americans can no longer avoid 'the talk,' too. Our U.S. history is littered & documented with acts of violence perpetrated by White Americans against all other Americans. The time for atonement for the sins of our fathers, this generational curse, has come due. No denying.
