Charles Barkley on Saturday night highlighted the value of getting a free education as student-athletes in college basketball launched their fight in hopes of compensating from their names, images and likenesses (NIL).

Charles Barkley on Saturday night highlighted the value of getting a free education as student-athletes inBarkley disagreed with people who say that getting free education was nothing."Education, to me, that’s my biggest gripe. When these people on television talk about who should get paid or not … I get sick and tired of people telling these young kids getting a free education is nothing," he said during the NCAA Men’s Tournament broadcast on TBS.

"That’s total BS in my opinion. The NCAA got some issues and they’re not perfect, but to tell kids especially young Black kids that getting a free education is nothing is ridiculous and stupid." Barkley has been a proponent of highlighting the importance of the free education part for young student-athletes."I do this little science experiment when I speak at schools. Let’s say I’m at a white school. I ask how many kids want to play pro sports. Less than 10 percent raised their hand. They say they want to be doctors, lawyers, engineers. But when I speak at predominantly black schools 90 percent of kids want to play sports," he said in that interview.

College basketball stars launched their campaign to get compensated for their names, images and likenesses this week and tweeted their demands.Ryan Gaydos is the sports editor for FoxNews.com. Follow him on social media @Gaydos_

Never really thought about it but Chuck has a grt point. A small fraction of the college athletes will ever make a living playing pro sports but - NCAA Divisions I & II schools provide more than $3.6 billion in athletics scholarships ANNUALLY 2 more than 180,000 student-athletes

That free education may go away once the salaries begin... they can then pay for their tuition.

I think it’s good for students to provide a place to focus on the training ,but it’s also important to learn making money is hard and to do something is to cost money 💰

Free education means Democrats' infiltration to eliminate individuality.

Nothing Relative to billions in revenue made on student athletes labor take by the NCAA etal.

Charles Barkley did not get an education, free or otherwise

100% agree with Barkly I would have give anything for a free education just think about all the politicians trying to make the government pay students loans believe me college is expensive & athletes are getting it free just play the sport you love & get that free education

callikaffy You are right Charles!

Well Barkley is his own man. He doesn’t follow the politically correct line. I respect that. These clowns that play college sports are amateur athletes and do not warrant being paid.

It also gets many visibility for the pros. I have NO problem. Tell you what, if the free education at a school where, let’s face it, many could not get into without their athletics, and potential for being picked up for the pros isn’t enough then don’t take the offer. Walk away.

'You gotta a better chance to be a doctor or a lawyer than playing in the NBA.' Well said Charles. None bullshit just to the point.
