to help some pupils catch up with lessons lost to Covid. It will be up to schools to decide which pupils get the lessons - they won't be for everyone, and the summer holidays won't be shorter. But the government is providing hundreds of millions of pounds in funding to make sure it happens. Alongside the face-to-face lessons for some secondary pupils, there is also funding for primary and secondary schools to boost summer clubs and activities.

The widely expected decision to maintain Level Five was taken at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, but primary schools will reopen on Monday for younger pupils. In May 2019, Lynn Parker's husband of 42 years, Alastair, moved into a care home after he was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis. She visited him almost every day until March 2020, when the pandemic forced her to stop. He died just before Christmas in a Caerphilly nursing home - she had last held his hand 10 months earlier. So the plan is to put children off school permanently by expecting them to give up the summer holidays after telling them the work they’ve done in homeschooling means diddly squat?

bbclaurak So teachers, who have been working hard throughout the pandemic providing work and online lessons for the kids, while the parents get the credit for homeschooling, are now being asked to give up their summer break? That's probably not going to go down well.

So the kids (who's parents will take up summer school) have been in school 2/3rds of the year, homeschooled the other third and will now have to work through their summer. That's just what needed to improve their mental health. What's more, those who need catch up, won't go.

bbclaurak They should not make teachers work through their summer holiday. Employ retired teachers and private tutors who would normally mark exams and are without work.

The kids don’t need another 2 months off school at home over the summer so I think it is a good thing to open up the schools so they can catch up on lost ground!

UK Union Corruption Matt Hancock should resign & our taxpayers' money wasted on dodgy PPE should be recovered. TORIES = CORRUPTION = UKUNION

Kids have more chance of catching a unicorn, than convid

So many bitcon traders on Twitter are trickster markdonaldAmeli thank you for opening my eyes to their ways now I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to help others

Keep kicking that can down the road! Children are hardly effected!!!!why have they got to wear masks?....why do they have to be separated?....why do they have to have the injection?

Perfect tactic - 'you're the teachers, here's the money. It's your fault if nothing happens'

Will teachers be happy to carry on teaching in the 6 week break?
