Sydney's private Waverley College has become the latest school to ban the iconic Aussie mullet hairstyle, labelling it “not acceptable” for students.

Waverley College deputy principal Patrick Brennan told students they would need to take a trip to the barbers if they arrived at school with a mullet.

“The ‘mullet’ haircut trending at present is not acceptable and students will be directed to the local barber or their preferred hair stylist to rectify any issues,” he said this month, according toA Waverley College spokeswoman also backed Mr Brennan’s stance, saying in a statement that the mullet ban was a lesson in learning how “rules, guidelines, and expectations are necessary for growth”.

“Mullets used to be a negative term that people used to describe a haircut that had ‘gone wrong’. Now it’s my number one request,” London hairdresser Lulu Richards told theMullet enthusiast Joe Ruiz attends Mulletfest in 2019. Picture: AAP Image/Perry Duffin.

Agreed. So 80s. It wouldn’t be acceptable in the corporate world.

Its Eshay Pandemic brah

Let kids have whatever hair they want. Later in life, you choose a style that suits the type of employment you want. Same with how you dress. It’s all well and good to say it’s a war of the classes but honestly if you behave in a classless way, you’ll be treated that way.

How about banning Burkas

School is for “learning” to do as your told so polish those boot, put on that tie hair same as everybody else then shut the fuck up

Thats not ok. Totally unAustralian!

Society agrees with them.

Excellent

Good 👍

Will JohnHoward and ScottMorrisonMP do their magical Hillsong dance and cure homosexuality in private schools as well?

the whole school should turn up in mullets 😜

Control freaks. Conformity not individuality.

Good... we don’t need that low class shit here!

This story says so much about Australia Intolerance to fashion Intolerance to authority Private Vs Public Parent Vs School But really, it’s a mullet on a mullet THAT says it all 😆

Un-australian.

Good. Cutting it off helps both the school and the kids

good job Waverley College other ways this kids future is the wankers of Waverley

It’s shocking but it’s just a haircut. Kids have to confirm in so many ways - haircuts don’t matter

Before they do anything too rash, maybe they should go to the mullet festival this weekend. Do you think they could change their mind?

I like schools hair policies, and other parents do too. Yes, I did go to a school with them and yes, I did have to alter my hair at Headmaster's requests. My son and I have both had mullets and mohawks, but frankly I do like our kids looking like robots

They taught to stay inside the box and not look outside

Too much breeding by those bogans, they seem to be every where.

Oh really, the feedback is from reddit you say.

Party in the back, business in the front. 👍🏻

Think WaverlyCollege should focus on their rape problem, rather than their mullet problem.

Its the universal haircut for dickhead head. I know, I had one when I was a dickhead kid!

Pissing on homeless people should be fine.

I think the mullet is a crime against humanity. 😂

Good. The mullet is awful and should be outlawed!

Lol 😂

It's like we're back in the stupid 1960s and getting upset because men have 'long hair'. FFS, haven't they something better to do?

stostheboss

So you can fly a Nazi flag in your front yard but can’t have a mullet... give me a spell

I’m prettsure it’s been banned at most private schools for years.

Omg. You are kidding? Far more important things. It's not what's on the outside but the inside. At least they go to school. Just stupidity

This is a non article.

Presentation. Impression. I don’t see doctors, elite lawyers, finance professionals, executives, management, etc have this. You send your kid to a school to prepare them for the real world and to be successful. Presentation and impression is a key factor.

I didn't think hair past the collar was ever allowed at a private school?

Ugly hairstyle. I prefer my long hair.

I thought there were cultural reasons to wear such an appalling haircut.

As is their right.

What a confident virgin

But of course we'll ensure we teach Boys how to be girls these days and girls how to be boys 😡😡😡😡

I'd love to see their rulings on dreds on a traditional dred wearer - darker skin tones, I mean.

It does look pretty shit, but at the of the day it's just hair.

If this referred to Afros, there would be talkshow panels and op eds decrying racism.

There heaps of crappy hairstyles out there. Also ppl with crappy tattoos too.

Dont accept them in the army. Why accept them in schools. Its about discipline. Just like polised shoes. Presentation. Not slob like. All flows through.

Good idea!! Its about presentation.

I went to a bogan public school where you weren’t allowed a mullet. This isn’t news.

It’s not even appropriate for bogans!

Arent rules and standards annoying

That’s a great decision but we live in a world now that opens up a door for anyone to complain and we fold.

Offensive is it? Why stop there? Lets ban rainbow flags. They’re offensive too 🤷‍♂️

How ridiculous.

Ridiculous...I would boycott the school... 📢🎶 BOYCOTT BOYCOTT BOYCOTT 📢🎶

That’s un-Australian

tyrelle123 Ha ! Show them a few of these chaps ..they won’t like it when they start to look like that without a cut ..still , I expect they’ll have been expelled by then ..little tikes ..regards from U.K. .

I'm catching these vibes

they know this just makes it cooler, right?

Good!

And we thank them....

It's a hairstyle. But sure, indoctrinate your future into believing appearance is everything. NZ couldn't do this as an AB sports a mullet and the trend is back! What's old is new again.

I’ve seen som BEAUTIFUL mullets lately.

Funny article but hair has nothing to do with education. I'd seek a different school I think.

So how does that fit in with the current society PC requirements of diversity & inclusiveness?

Defund

It’s not acceptable for everyone not just kids !

😂😂😂

You've got to watch out for those haircuts. They can be a real problem for education. TI

Just another ignorant private school absolutely full of crap

Fucking private schools think their shit doesn’t stink! Show me how a students haircut affects their ability to learn!

Yep private schools make many of their own rules. Don’t like them? Don’t enroll.

Woke wooses

It’s not acceptable for anyone.

Elitist pigs

Good. Have some standards.
