The Biden administration and progressive Democrats are heading for their first big policy clash over whether to gradually increase the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour as part of the upcoming COVID-19 stimulus bill.

Progressives, who have long rallied for the policy, say it would help stimulate an economy hampered by the pandemic. They view the bill as the best vehicle to get the wage increase passed into law.

Biden has said he remains open to negotiation. At a CNN town hall Tuesday, he mentioned that a $12 or $13 minimum wage might have a “diminished” impact on small businesses while still generating economic growth. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki later said Biden wasn’t suggesting the end goal would be $12 or $13.

“This is the first key decision on a real commitment to progressive values,” said Rep. Ro Khanna , who was national co-chair of Sanders’ campaign. The standoff over the minimum wage comes as Biden says he opposes another top progressive priority: forgiving $50,000 of student loans through executive order.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned that the case for forgiveness “is looking shakier by the day,” pointing out the significance that Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, is on board with the idea, but Biden is not. Two moderate Democrats, Sens. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, have reservations about including the $15 minimum wage in the plan.

Inflationary move at $15.

$15 an hour leads to being replaced by automated machines. $4 an hour hazard pay leads to store closures. Way to Dumocrats, your putting your people out of work 😂😂😂😂😂

Progressives will not because they have committed too much to the uncompromising “all or nothing” agenda they are showcasing, but they should work on compromising more if they really care about THE United States of America and everyone in it for the near and long-term. 🇺🇸

The claim that investing $40k in a child or teenager a bad idea over re-investing $40k more, after a $10k credit, in a working and educated adult, who can pay debt, which the child or teenage cannot, will not resonate with sound Americans who consider the whole futures interest.

Progressives’ don’t seem to realize their demands are cutting off any fray voters lost looking for leadership, and Joe’s mild and moderate approach on these 2 issues, student debt and wage increase, are very helpful to those who don’t appreciate one sided demands.

I do not mean inconsiderate in terms of mean or hurtful, I am saying the wage being $7.25 now and them wanting it to catapult to $15.00 bypassing a $10.00, $11.00, or even $12.00-$13.00 period and the valuable data that will bring needs to be considered.

I think the President is doing a good job of having an “all things considered” attitude on leading that most if not all the progressive lack, and that’s the difference here, supported by separate points of view by Manchin and Sinema, progressives’ demands too inconsiderate.

Read the entire article, great writing, also the article flowed well enough where I saw both sides input, and I also saw a general lack of compromise controlling the progressive’s thoughts on what our Country needs.

NezzyKnowZzZ666 And retail is waiting to know if they need to gradually increase the price of everything like gas under this fossil bastard.

Progressives are NOT Democrats. Calling them Progressive Democrats is sloppy. The entire progressive (not progressive at all, really) movement is hostile to & wants to destroy/replace the Democratic party. This is intentional on their part.

Minimum wage needs abolished.

Clash? That’s putting it mildly. The Republicans don’t believe in democracy. They want wealthy people (White men) to make the rules. They don’t care about people, only their money.

Let Biden know he won’t have the votes to pass anything if they don’t include the minimum wage increase!

What they don't tell you is what this will do to the purchasing power of those already making $15+ per hour.
