The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development and the Ateneo de Manila University have launched the Philippine Groundwater Outlook website, which seeks to mitigate the adverse impacts of flood and drought in selected areas in the country.
Aside from the gathered data, the project will also assess, simulate and analyze the effects of flooding, drought, population change, climate change, and massive urban development in groundwater to produce a near realistic groundwater outlook for the next 50 years, he added. “Through the collaboration, the locally developed sensors will be integrated with the United Kingdom-developed sensors to create a hybrid sensor monitoring water level and quality. Advanced modelling tools and techniques for groundwater assessment will also be shared and transferred to PH local experts,” de la Peña said.
