A Scottish government advisory group says the measure should apply when schools begin a phased return this month.

meant senior pupils and their teachers had to wear face coverings in classrooms.

One-way systems were introduced in corridors and physical contact including hugging and high-fiving was ruled out.Schools across Scotland have been closed to the vast majority of pupils since the Christmas holidays, with learning being done at home and online. There will also be a part-time return, but on a very limited basis, for senior secondary pupils to allow them to complete work for national qualifications.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It should have been 2 metre distancing all along, even some of their desks are too close together!

Love the photo to show social distancing is happening.....what a load of bollards in reality as they all hang round with each other come end of school

Who sends their kids to school in a mini skirt!? Sort it out ffs!

Secondary students will not be able to do this - boys particularly; they bond by wrestling and piling on top one another, nor will staff be able to enforce this. I know, I’ve tried. More pandemic theatre. More callousness, illnesses and death.

It's good, lesser sexual harassment complaint.

Well that should keep the teenage pregnancies down. But if that doesn’t work, I am sure the untested vaccines will . . .

Good luck trying to keep secondary school students 2 metres apart.

The covid19 restrictions are worse then online learning. Having to be masked all day , restricted it’s horrible. It better to become better at online teaching.

Just tell them to stay in the house and be educated by mum and dad, better than the useless pish there getting taught now

Try enforcing that as they walk home!

How exactly is that going to work in an average sized state school classroom?

Farce, unrealistic and not helpful for schools

🤣 Good luck with enforcing that one on the kids. Who makes these rules up? jokers whatplanetaretheyon notahopeinhell

The way I see it is that we're 5500miles from Wuhan, and we got Covid. 2metre social distance won't cut it.

Not enough.

Then we need bigger schools.

Right, yeah😂😂😂. Can’t even keep stupid students apart!

What a load of rubbish. Typical BBC crap

🤣🤣🤣 Never going to happen.

Could and water is still wet.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Good luck with that

Stop being morons and let them be kids

😂😂😂

Governments advisory group need to get real.

I received a letter on Sims parents from the head stating he was used to writing the odd bereavement message but the numbers he has written lately is unprecedented with a number to call for children who are struggling with bereavement

Stay at home , protect the school , Save the teachers....if secondary school pupils are ordered to 2 metre rule....it's not going to happen !!

Do all these mps wanna try and go into one secondary school and all try and stay 2m apart? Impossible. Idiots 🤦🏻‍♀️

They say that to get the kids back in school. This was promised before and then my daughter tells me they are all sandwiched together in a tiny corridor changing classes each lesson with many refusing to wear masks or sanitising hands .

Impossible

Lol you have to be joking. I live next to a school and its always been one swarming mass all the way through covid

Not eno Ventilation Etc Virus is mostly airborne transmitted

Social distancing is the necessary norm, we all have to do it, seems sensible for secondary schools to do it too, too risky if pupils are too close with the chance of passing it to others who then take it home.

Vaccinate school staff!

BBCWorld bbc we need experts like dgurdasani1 and IndependentSage being allowed to speak up as opposed to giving a mathematician who models cattle the opportunity to misinform the public. Along with an MP who seemed completely unknowledgeable.

That'll work well

And pigs might fly. Get real.

IndependentSage have asked for more safety measures in schools again will they be ignored again?

MakeSchoolsSafe Parents_Utd

Best of luck with that!

Be a bit difficult I would imagine

BBCWorld bbc

good luck enforcing that

Cool. We teaching outside now then?

God Alive. Just get them back to school. This is bloody nonsense. What the fuck is going on? If this needs to happen then clearly the vaccine doesn’t work. What a fricking shambles.

It doesn’t work, we tried it back in September.

What ...Even behind the bike sheds?

With the numbers involved this is almost impossible, but effort can be made.

There isn’t a 2 m distance rule between students in the classroom 🙄

Schools are built to have 30 kids in a class..... How are you suddenly gonna spread them out 2m, in the same space 😂😂

Could! They should as they are Asymptomatic spreading it to each other then they bring Covid 19 home and infect family

Is this where the government drip leaks it’s covid plan over the next week before deciding what to stick with based on popularity, for the formal plan release next week ?

That’s useless without masks and good masks at that

Hahahahahaha!

Good luck with that

Joke

Really, who comes up with this stuff. Research shows that once they are sitting in the same room for more than 15 minutes unless all the windows are wide open they have all been exposed to what everyone else’s has breathed out.

You can make any rules you like but I guarantee they won't follow any of them.

shame no one told the virus to stick to a distancing rule. All that floating about in the air willy nilly tsk!

Whatever 🤣

We aren't robots - at least some of us. Alienation so early is not good. Impossible in classes unless they halve numbers.

The BBC make this sound like some sort of punishment. It's the minimum of crucial mitigations required to control the virus.

That's good.... Students has to adhere to...

We did all this in Sept; worked (kind of) for a week or so. Have the planks that come up with these ideas ever stepped foot in a secondary school? Let them try keeping teenagers 2m apart & wearing masks when they should. You spend all day nagging at them. That’s not education.

Will be deregistering my child, iv done a smashing job homeschooling so think I'll continue, I no longer trust schools and teachers are a disgrace hiding from their jobs, getting schools closed and causing unknown damage to the next generation...

😂🤣😂🤣😂

No more news!?

Good luck with that......how many square meters are needed to keep the average size class at a 2 meter distance from each other.!!!!!!

2m gap on school buses. Would that be half empty or half full buses? Are they going to pay for extra buses or make the less fortunate walk to school. SNP masterpiece in government.

Take it people who come up with these rules are doing it from the comfort of their Home Office and haven't stepped foot in a school since they left Do children & staff have a right to walk out if not being followed, enforced or is plausible due to building design & numbers?

It’s all going full circle till they lock us all down again in the Autumn.

That’ll work.. anyone seen kids on the way to and from school. What naive idiots have we got coming up with this stuff?

Oh please.... 🙄

Lol

Stupid, unenforceable, and ridiculous

That will work brilliantly in overcrowded schools and buses won’t it 🙄🤦‍♀️

And we need improved ventilation and masks in classrooms, as well as social distancing and smaller class sizes (rotas). Implement safety measures. MakeSchoolsSafe COVIDisAirborne

A two metre rule against an AIRBORNE virus. Really 🤔🤔 it’s not good enough. Gov. needs to learn herd immunity is NOT the answer !

As if they’ll stick to that!

Won’t work. End of.

Hahahahaa...FFS...are you serious? 2 meters in a Sec school, with teenagers? Get real...🤣😂🤪

Covid: Secondary school pupils could face two-metre social distance rule कोविद: माध्यमिक विद्यालय के छात्र दो-मीटर सामाजिक दूरी के नियम का सामना कर सकते हैं

The world has gone mad. Can we just stop with this madness please.

It is what they do after school that matters too.....no point in measures in school if they do sod all outside.

So that's about 9 pupils per class?

Who comes up with these stupid ideas? There’s not enough space in classrooms and corridors to do this!

So they've addmited that school pupils are super carriers...

I am now convinced the Tory party should all be classed insane 👍

That’s it fuck up our kids more than they already are.

Yea because that will totally work

Fantastic to hear that the Scottish fm is going to invest in larger school buildings to accommodate greater socal distancing other wise it would be impossible ,

It can't even be done in a supermarket and you're expecting teenagers to?🤣

Only a year bloody late!

For classes of 30 you will need very long and very wide corridors when queuing to enter a room!

Lol good luck

bbcnews You need to be clearer for those that don't bother reading the article. This is for Scotland. Not the rest of the UK. Misleading headline.

Has anyone on the advisory group ever met a teenager?

Good luck enforcing that...what’s the penalty..oh fining parents....yep that will stop em..

How realistic is this? A school of 2400 students!

On the bus to and from school as well? And only 8 in every classroom?

Good luck with that, it’s hard enough getting them to wear masks!!

*should

Good luck with that with over a thousand pupils in some

Not much understanding of airborne viruses here. We travel through each others exhaled air. Whether two metres apart or not. All for maximising masks.

.

Will make absolutely no difference!

Could, would, should... what pathetic journalism

Wipl make absolutely no difference!

Hmm...maths...30 kids laid out in a grid 2 meters apart. Plus teacher. How big must the classroom be? And how big are they in reality?

How?

That’s ridiculous on the walk to school the girls link arms the boys are leaping on each other’s backs very few wear masks or socially distance walking to school yet when they get there we are supposed to believe they will be 2m apart wear masks and be safe - ridiculous.

Anyone who thinks this proposal brings anything to the table has never worked in a school.

It'll be shackles next.

Great. I’m not sure these people have ever been to a school.

Looking forward to classrooms magically becoming several times larger to accommodate students 2m apart.

Yeah, that won't work.

Good luck with that. Maybe in classrooms, but what happens once break times comes, and home times at bell. Makes no difference

It might be an idea for the BBC to make it clear in its headline that this is a Scottish proposal. It’s a ridiculous idea and I’m sure even Westminster wouldn’t bother considering it.

😂 have these people been in a school when the bell goes?

And who’s going to be monitoring and enforcing that? Can’t even monitor what’s happening now

Utter madness would mean a class of 30 kids would need a room half the size of a football pitch as a minimum

The people making these stupid decisions have absolutely zero grasp on reality.

Tonight I could win the Lottery

Won’t work they kids kids like to huddle mess about share stuff play with each other etc Adults making up these rule are fucking morons 🌈🙏✊🏿👌

The girl wearing her uniform skirt around her arse obviously hasn’t complied with the uniform rules and like others how do you expect them to comply with COVID rules 🤔🤨🤨🤨

Any headline that says “Could” is merely conjecture DefundTheBBC

Problem is covid isn't going anywhere. People can't social distance forever.

Absolutely pathetic... the world needs to get on now, none of this “it’s not the right time” shite cause that just turns into “another 6 months” then “another 6 months” we need to get back to normality now before we go bust.

good luck enforcing that..

That’s a bit bizarre given when they are out of school they just mix as if there was no pandemic.

Teachers reading this....

Behave

That’s always been the case. It’s not possible in the vast majority of schools

Except behind the bike sheds

I heard they should walk on one leg with a cucumber balanced on their head, whilst wearing 8 masks.

we literally did face it and it didn’t work what

Could have would have should have, do you have any actual news instead of speculation on what might happen? Why don't you wait until it happens, then it's news, but what would you do for the other 23 hours and 55 minutes a day.

Where is the consideration for improving ventilation/ air filtration systems in schools and other public places? Surely the investment would equal the benefit fairly quickly....

Utterly stupid. Covid increases when schools open. Fact. Pretending otherwise is the pathetic norm in the UK. Leaders need to show composure and hold firm until the job of killing off covid is done properly. Instead they're just dying to F*ck it Up again.

1600 students in my school... good luck with that! They have no concept of distancing at all 🤷‍♀️

What's the point? They are out in groups now. What are they going to do, have police line the roads as they leave school to stop them walking together? Cases do not matter anymore if deaths are rare during to the vaccine.

🤣 Weren’t they trying to do that in September? 🤷‍♀️ Round in circles we go 🙄

😂😂😂😂😂 You expect them to obey the rules, that is highly unlikely, they don’t take anything seriously 😂

We’ve been doing that since the beginning?

Haha that doesnot work for long time.

saying it 2 meter distance rule is all well and good, but people don't keep to that rule super markets people are pathetic, u really think school students are gonna keep to the rules nope not at all. if grown ups can't do it, school wont stick to it.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Who’s enforcing that all day then? On buses, in corridors, in lunchtimes, on the way home? Once the vulnerable have been vaccinated, get our children back in schools.

Social distancing does not work in schools. There’s not enough room in secondary schools to accommodate it and in terms of break and lunch times transmission outside is low and they have to wear masks anyway. Case closed.
