Florida teachers worried about returning to the classroom during the coronavirus pandemic win legal battle Monday with Gov. DeSantis, who wanted to reopen schools by the end of this month.

“The districts have no meaningful alternative,” Dodson said in his ruling. “If an individual school district chooses safety, that is, delaying the start of schools until it individually determines it is safe to do for its county, it risks losing state funding, even though every students is being taught.”

The Department of Education’s order, which was issued July 6, overrode local school boards’ rights to operate their own schools, Dodson ruled. Dodson noted that after Hillsborough County, on the advice of local health experts, voted earlier this month to delay reopening for four weeks, it was threatened with the loss of $23 million in monthly state aid by education commissioner Richard Corcoran.

“They had no real choice,” Dodson wrote. “Defendants arbitrarily prioritized reopening schools statewide in August over safety and the advice of health experts; and all school districts complied in order to avoid a drastic loss of State funding.”

Many schools, in Florida, were already open before this ruling was made. Those schools are still open.

Good riddance to cowardly teachers.

I don't want ppl who won't do their own research for facts teaching our kids!

Sad since our numbers are coming down and suicides are up. Kids need socializing. The positive side is maybe we will get to witness some of the liberal brainwashing and step in now.

Are Florida teachers Sivan with underlying illnesses. If so they should stay home and hire new heaktheyirr teachers.

The teachers sued because the state was requiring them to work without taking steps the public health department deemed necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Teachers work for municipalities. Their employer, just like your employer, is responsible for ensuring their safety.

I'm gonna tell you something- if they don't hold back the little ones at least, there's gonna be a four-fold increase in COVID19 cases in this country come August!

Sorry DeathSantis you lose. Trump is going to so hate you and mean tweet you.

Did NBChicom report on the fact that kids in Wuhan are going to school full-time, with no masks, just months after Communist China blocked domestic flights from Wuhan, while allowing all international flights out?! NBC is CCP mouthpiece.

This is a great win for all TRUE AMERICANS who favor saving the lives of others over reopening without any safty measures in place. Cant wsit to see this more and more on front pages showing how trump and his ilk fail in court and in life time and time again.

Man, I have worked through this entire thing. Teachers have gotten paid while we’re out here working and trying to “teach” our kids ourselves. Seems kind of lame

DeathSantis

Wow. I guess they don't deserve to live with the criticism they are receiving from those of who are not teachers. Oh yeah, forgot most of you don't want to be bothered by the children you brought to this world. You are the cowards.

Wow, I didnt expect that

Defund the schools

why not stay at home then, do some Zoom meetings, still get your money

Most of us worked through it. Some of us were front line. Teachers seem so weak to me.

Two Florida teachers turned their students' desks into little Jeeps to make social distancing less scaryTeachers across the United States are preparing to welcome students back to the classroom. But as coronavirus cases rise, many worry that young children's excitement will quickly turn into fear. Plexiglass making $ like a boss. I wish I invested in some of those companies 😂 I'll be glad when Conservatives win and things can go back to reality. BTW: Charter Schools are a wonderful alternative to public schools. No whiny Union to deal with either. We have like 25 here in Orlando area and kids can attend any one they want! That's very creative!
