Residents near University College Cork are asking landlords to include 'no house parties' in letting agreements for student houses

Residents near University College Cork are asking landlords to include "no house parties" in letting agreements for student houses.

Chairperson of the MRRA and former mayor of Cork, Catherine Clancy, said that they are not prepared to put up with a winter of anti-social behaviour near the college. "We also call on the Government to move on legislation to put an end to the Covid-19 house parties to deal with the reckless landlords and tenants who ignore the Covid-19 regulators and are non-compliant. People's lives are at risk if we do not play by the rules."

Local residents say they appreciate recent efforts by UCC to tackle poor student behaviour, including the imposition of fines since February. The new approach, involving university authorities and students themselves, has seen the number of complaints from the public linked to UCC's Rag Week and Fresher's Week events drop over the last two years.
