'It is not only that the start of schooling has been postponed; the chance for Filipino learners to start preparing for a brighter future has also been deferred, and not just for a few weeks.' Opinion

Deferred, moved, postponed, delayed. Are there other synonyms I was not able to mention? Having gone through days of pure anxiety, I can say that I am glad to have the opening of classes moved from August 24 to October 5.

In our school, we were divided into teams of teachers tasked to conduct orientation programs to parents after the conclusion of the two-week pilot testing. Each team was also delegated to coordinate with the assigned feeder barangays regarding the learning modality to be used, as well as the system to be followed when classes start.

Then we held our orientation for almost a hundred parents. I believe we did all we could, said everything we should have, explained salient points of distance learning as clearly as possible. We tried to answer all of their queries and exerted efforts to enlighten them the best way we could. Maybe we succeeded, maybe not.

I saw that the parents understood her, but their faces were full of worry. Our assurances may have seemed like empty words. How do you homeschool your child when you also have to work odd jobs each day just to provide food on the table? How can we make sure that all those who came and listened to our plan on the opening of school year 2020-2021 got the clarity they needed?

Teachers’ group pushes ‘pass-or-fail’ grading systemMANILA, Philippines — A coalition of teachers on Saturday urged the Department of Education to consider adapting a “pass-or-fail” grading mechanism in consideration of students who will be If it's just pass or fail, how will universities know how much a student has passed in a given subject? Numerical system shows that. Why not make it like the one in Germany, wherein 1 is the best score, 4 is the passing score, and anything worse, like 5, means failed? Lower the bar. Brilliant. An uneducated public is easier to control. They belive whatever the government will say. That’s encouraging the Pwede Na mindset not encouraging brilliance & hard work
