A chain-link fence lock is seen on a gate at a closed Ranchito Elementary School in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles on July 13. Amid spiking coronavirus cases, the Los Angeles Unified School District is implementing a testing contact tracing plan.A chain-link fence lock is seen on a gate at a closed Ranchito Elementary School in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles on July 13.
Under the district's plan, nurses will help test more than 600,000 students and 75,000 staff members and also implement contact tracing techniques. It will cost aboutThe plan means a lot of extra work for school nurses, like LAUSD school nurse Stephanie Yellin-Mednick.."It'll be questionnaires going home to parents where they'll go ahead and tell us what's going on with the family and the children. And then we'll go ahead and test.
She says they'll also use contact tracing, which takes aggressive and widespread followup. And this comes at a time in which LAUSD schools have a massive nurse shortage. Yellin-Mednick treats her assigned school's more than 2,000 students by herself."But many elementary schools get a nurse one day a week and two years ago, I worked as a lead nurse out of the nursing office, and I covered five different campuses.""And remember, the plan probably is not to bring everybody back on campus right away," Yellin-Mednick said."It'll be to split everybody up until we're up and safely running for a while.
We have school nurses?
Hope their pay triples.
Leave the kids alone. This is so ridiculous.
“What is good for the goose is good for the gander” is in a socialist run country - USA says innocent until proven guilty but communist countries tell you what to think & do as socialism sets it up even though we are all with different fingerprints or eye scans. Yes? Or No?
Yes especially bc no schools have their own nurse anymore- one nurse for like a whole district of schools bc of lack of funding
Cancel school. Postpone the 2020 election. Force masks on everyone even at home or outside. Everything will be fine.
Vicious cycle. More testing means more positive tests means more screaming and squalling to continue strangling the economy.
Elementary schools in my districts have not had nurses in over 20 years. In their stead are health clerks.
