PETALING JAYA: The 2021 school academic calendar has been released, with the number of schooling days returning to the normal 194 days.

Education Minister Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin had announcement in Parliament that the dates for the new school year were decided after taking into consideration the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This new date is much later than the dates school usually begins," he said in his winding-up speech on the Royal address on Aug 3. In a circular dated Aug 14, Education Ministry deputy director-general Adzman Talib said the school year would begin on Jan 20,2021 and end on Dec 9,2021 for schools in Johor, Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu, and on Dec 10,2021 for schools in other states.

Schools also do not have to replace the special allocated holidays for Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Deepavali, he added. The mid-year break is back to its original nine days and will be from May 28 or 29 until June 12 or 13, depending on the state. The full academic calendar can be found at the Education Ministry website at www.moe.gov.my/takwim/takwim-sekolah-2021.
