"One million children set to stay off school today amid safety fears," is the headline on the Guardian's front page. The figure represents half of those who are expected to return to primary school in England on Monday when classes resume for selected year groups, the paper adds. The paper reports scepticism from parents, teaching unions and councils that schools are returning too soon.
Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said that a significant risk remains of the virus"running out of control again", the paper reports. But Mr Raab has said that local lockdowns will be imposed if the public abuse new freedoms, the paper adds."We'll meat again," is the headline leading The Sun, as lockdown starts to ease from today.
So many schools havent eased they are only taking children whose parents are key workers, that might be why so many kids are home
My daughters school is only allowing children whose parents are key workers
I get that theres an urgent need to resume business & get kids back to school. What we don't need is people who don't need to be out & about flooding parks, beaches, malls & tourist destinations. The Conservatives need to win back the support of those who are not unjustly worried
If the government needs a benchmark to assess the level of trust and faith the people have towards how they are dealing with the crisis this is it.
Somehow I don’t believe there are one million year 1 and year 6 pupils.
So how many are going back ! In my daughters class of 28 only 5 not returning. Another 5 aren’t allowed to return as shielding. Leaving her 18 in two classes of 9.
How many children returned?
How many of those parents that are keeping their children off school have taking them to the beaches...
Please report the gradual return to schools as negatively as possible oh I forgot you are the BBC Fake News of course you will
I don't get it, everybody was sitting on top of each other at the beaches, now pupils stay at home not going to school.
Yep, get my bins mtd, delv my parcels, care for mum, stack the shelves, serve my sausages, serv my meds, drive the buses but I won’t teach kiddies! Left wing union activists to blame!
Our parent surveys could have told you that. Majority of parents don’t want to send their children to school, yet BorisJohnson is putting pressure on schools to ‘get the economy ‘ moving.
The article says England. Why haven't you?
I'm not surprised that kids won't go back. I'd be terrified too if my school had armed riot police outside it
xtpofficialx Because of all the uncertainty and mixed messages i would not have sent my children to school either there's plenty of resources of ways to learn now a days.
Too much conflicting scientific advice right now. No-one is sure of actual risk plus have you seen what the school set-up is? I have 2 special needs kids & they'd really struggle with the heavy restrictions. My kids will be home until Sept - leaves more space for those going in.
Well check to see if they're on the beach then.
Not sending mine, seems to be a noticeable increase in the breaking of lockdown rules.
Mass panic from the usual suspects, get a grip.
They've more chance of getting run over on the way than catching it when there. Statistically true. Starmers kids haven't stopped going at all.
So teachers get even more time in the garden 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 shame supermarket staff, delivery drivers, police or NHS don’t..
Two weeks later news will write about more sicks (children & parents). I believe it was a mistake and September was a good option.
We mazewell pre register them for universal credit now then 😂
How can anyone trust this government to safeguard them and their children? They said lockdown wasn't necessary when everyone else did it. We did it too late. They said quarantining people or testing them wasn't necessary when they entered the country. We did it too late.
You're clearly not seeing the 'bigger picture'.... govt can't afford furloughing any more... people have to die...er.... get back to 'normal'... er.... do whatever... A few vulnerable and elderly deaths.... probably saves money, eh!! LambsToTheSlaughter
With good reason!
Shouldn’t BBC write its own news?
Stick this in your headlines.
Eaton is not opening until September!
And exactly how do you know this? ScumMedia
When eton opens thats when ill send my kids back fuck off you toffee twts hahahhaha
You be better home schooling now after all this your faith in the whole system would be gone.
wonder how many of those 1m went to the beach at the weekend?
What did you think was going to happen? schoolreopening
My daughter is in year 6 and was so happy when she saw boris announce that year 6 go back 1st june, got a txt from school today to say she wasnt allocated a place. My daughter is confused to be honest so am I
It's going to take more than just a gentle word that lockdown been eased before parents will feel safe allowing their children back to schools across the UK.
😷😷😷
Parents destroying their children's futures.
Would you send your child with a bucket of fish to feed a shark? The answer is no of course !
Who wants to be a lamb
No day trip to Durham for them then?
