Coronavirus: Drop plan to reopen primaries to all pupils, ministers urged

School governors want ministers to drop plans for all primary pupils in England to return before the summer holidays.

From Monday, the government wants all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to return to their classrooms, with no more than 15 pupils per class.Under these rules, if all year groups went back, there would not be enough classrooms in the vast majority of primary schools. Many say, even with the limited numbers due to return in the first phase, they are already having to ask pupils to attend part-time, due to space constraints and the need for deep cleaning to keep the virus at bay.If schools have to spread out classes, how will all year groups be able to return?just under half said their schools would be open to the first phase of pupils on MondayAbout four in five said they were able to accept pupils from all the eligible year groups.

"It would be physically impossible to bring all pupils back with reduced class sizes - we do not have the extra classrooms or staff to accommodate them safely," one governor wrote.

My year 6 child has not been given a place, why arent they using yr2,3,4,5 classrooms so they can take all year 6 children

Schools should open fully and leave ut up to parents to send there children.

Even if a vaccine is found, there will still be parents who will refuse to have their kids vaccinated so there will never be a time when it's 100% safe

BBCPolitics UK schools re-opening risks surge in Coronavirus - warning from Government's OWN adviser English schools' return could lead to new surge, experts warn

It's simple... There's no law that says you have to send your kids to school... Vote with your feet.

BBCPolitics Not in Wales

It isn't just students the teachers and TAs need to be sure their safe in this environment..

Lazy school teachers and union. Govt should stop paying their salaries if refuse to work. Nothing is free.

Open schools to all children on a rota basis. If this isn’t possible then end the summer term early in England and let them go back mid-July.

This is an awful environment for children, just Wait till September!

This Govt is made up of lying incompetents We deserve better Hey send kids to school let the r rate climb up Denmark went back with cases in thd tens We have them in the thousands No track and trace Return? Because you think it wont hurt you Too late lockdown What a mess

Only last night Bbc news ran an item comparing UK and Danish should totally ignoring significant differences They are not like for like Stop misinforming people !

Maybe we should put all children back a year in their education, this year could be lost especially if we have a second wave .

Covria law states children can not be educated until they are given the life saving vaccine for they are unclean. covrialaw stayhomesavelives

“Chief Executive of the National Governance Association”. Dear God, how many more over-paid paper clip shuffling windbags are there?

is the government wrong on this? have they got the peoples best interest at heart?

Well if there was a vaccine that worked would all the children be given it? Presumably they would stop the unvaccinated returning to school for fear of spreading? Can you imagine the kerfuffle..... Common sense and risk assessment is required. Schools should be good at that.

Utterly ridiculous. Get our children back to school, they’re not at risk.

Is the BBC going to mention Rosie Duffield. Double standards yet again! Where's Maitlis? Home in Cornwall ?

Looking for the clueless, commenting on what they know nothing about 🤔 KeepTheLockdown

Seeing as the risk from Covid to people of school and working age is in the range of a daily drive to work. We should open them now or shut them down permanently. They have never not been safe.

Everyone else having to make it work the! Left wing union activists ruling the roost!

Only 2 children under 15 have died from Coronavirus 🤔 Teachers obviously don’t want to work, so don’t pay them

There hasn't been a lot of advise on Secondary schools, my children's head is worried that she can not accommodate yr10 & yr12 (420 students) + key workers / vulnerable children. Not an ideal situation in a very old school with small classrooms

It is the day before school open for non key worker children. Saying not to open tomorrow is a political stunt. If people (school governors in this case) want to actually stop the reopening they should have said so at least a week in advance

My lad is going back Wednesday, we have made our decision based on as much info as possible... He is disturbed enough in life due to this, and he has been told he is going back, then he wasn't now he is.....why don't you just screw with them more They need to go back!!

Qhy is there a comment from the BREXIT PARTY? What does this have to do with Brexit

Of course it should have been left till September, another thing not thought through

‘Ministers say the return of all pupils will depend on updated safety advice.’ Change the rules to fit political ends, like reducing the level of Ppe health professionals required. The cull continues. HerdImmunityIsMurder

'Ministers'? Is this another England-Only story as a UK story. Please make it clear, BBC.

The track and trace is not established and fully working, impossible to socially distance 5 year olds not to mention after school can mix with children outside their bubble! Nothing has been thought through

The pandemic has for the first time exposed the interconnections revolving around the right to education on one hand and protecting the right to health on the other hand.

Sorry, that is absolutely impossible no matter how much measures they will put but you simply cannot Social distance primary children especially after not having seen their friends for so many weeks...I cannot see it works myself

Almost every primary school to defy militant unions and reopen Monday, poll saysALMOST every primary school in England is set to defy teaching unions and reopen on Monday, a poll has found. The National Education Union said “we won’t do it” when the Governmen… Govt PR sheet. Come on, get those kids back to school even though those particular yr groups aren't going to be learning anything new, Yr 6's have technically finished, free up the parents, get them back making money and start collecting those taxes. Good for them. Well done everyone, unions are self serving pains in the arse.
