Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco expressed hope that the Department of Education (DepEd) would just automatically pass students this school year following the new confirmed local cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

With only about a month left for school year 2019-2020, Tiangco said that, he was urging “DepEd to automatically grant passing grades to all students so they do not have to attend classes anymore.”

“We must take all necessary precautions to protect our people, especially our children, from this disease,” he said, adding that there is an urgent need to implement proactive measures to help prevent transmission of COVID-19. The local government of Navotas announced on Saturday the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private schools, on Monday, March 9, in the city. The suspension of classes, according to him, was part of the preventive measures being taken by the city against the COVID-19.
