While it has yet to issue the official guidelines for the conduct of the end-of-school-year rites for school year (SY) 2019-2020, the Department of Education (DepEd) reminded public and private schools nationwide to ensure that graduation ceremonies and commencements exercises remain “simple but meaningful.”

“We always remind our schools to keep it simple because we want to emphasize simplicity and frugality but also meaningful rites” to encourage “civil rights, a sense of community, and personal responsibility,” DepEd Undersecretary for Administration Alain Pascua said in a mix of English and Filipino.

“We also do not have any reported local transmission as of now, so we have plans to go ahead with the scheduled activities,” Pascua said.
