of two schools in Texas found that when kindergarten and first grade students received additional time to play in the form of extra recess breaks each day, their academic performance on reading and math “significantly increased.”
The other two students whipped around and stared at the ruins, both quickly masking their initial look of disappointment. “We can make something else,” one of the students said matter-of-factly. Students at Pathfinder are still learning their letters and numbers and becoming more proficient at writing their names and short sentences. But, in addition to at least 50 minutes of playtime, they also enjoy 35 minutes of recess and 45 minutes of physical education, art, technology or music each day. And teachers say they have freedom to adjust schedules as needed.
Glad this is seeping back into public schools though the rational of higher test scores got us into a mess from the start. Such as, a staggering number of kids either removed and or on medication because they couldn't sit still for eight hours strait. Who of us can?
Yes! THIS is what we NEED!
Lee_in_Iowa Love this!
I’d double like if I could, awesome, it will be things like this that hopefully allow the next generation to bring positive change
Good grief. Is America just now finding this stuff out ? 😳 Rest of world been doing it for decades.
Thank goodness...Play is VITAL for children's development!
ridiculous germanic practice... nazi way...
Fnally! Kids learn things through plays and interactions with others! This is the best way for youngsters!
I hope it’s not too focused on play. That’s what preschool and weekends are for. Kindergartens can incorporate fun AND learning at the same time. Focus on that instead.
Jeez I wonder why the public education system is failing in America?
Good because that's how they learn 🍎
