St George Girls High School student Maja Vasic and her year 5 and 6 teacher at Arncliffe Public School, Margaret Dolso."She was always inquisitive, so creative and her vocabulary was extensive," Ms Dolso says. "But she was still a lot of fun. She liked being silly and ordinary, getting blu-tac off the walls and making Santa signs. It all stood out for me, and then she just progressed.

Year 12 English teacher Carole Vera and student Melanie Kate Laurie at Killarney Heights High School.Unlike Ms Dolso, Killarney Heights High School year 12 standard English teacher Carole Vera "didn't really believe" the news her student, Melanie Kate Laurie, had come first in the state when an email came through during the middle of class. "My initial reaction was: what are you talking about? That didn’t happen," Ms Vera said.

"I wasn't doing well in English, so I had to promise I would try really hard in her class," Melanie says. The two spent hours together grappling with, pulling essays apart and "putting them back together again", before sharing their results with the rest of the class.
