Oklahoma and Louisiana both require public school students learn about the Bible and Ten Commandments in classrooms.

Louisiana became the first state to require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom last week. OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma – All Oklahoma schools are required to teach the Bible and the Ten Commandments in their curriculums as of Thursday evening.

Every classroom in the state from grades 5 through 12 must have a Bible and all teachers must teach from the Bible in the classroom, Walters saidrequiring the Ten Commandments be displayed in all public school classrooms. The Louisiana law mandates that a poster of the Ten Commandments with “large, easily readable font” be in every classroom at schools that receive state funding, from kindergarten through college. A “context statement” will also be posted to explain why the religious text is in the classroom.
