Alder Hey Children's Hospital,NHS

Mum Hazel said she still thinks her son is at school following his tragic death

Alfie Rafferty, from Huyton, was just 12 years old when he was taken to the walk-in centre after complaining of earache. Alfie's family thought he was just going to be checked over for the common condition, but after banging his head weeks before, his family were advised to take him to hospital just to be sure.

The family has now set up the Alfie Rafferty Foundation in Huyton in Alfie's memory. Mum-of-three, Hazel Rafferty, 39, told the ECHO: “It’s been a horrific two years, it just hasn't been the same. Alfie's family said his diagnosis was "completely out of the blue" and following it, he stayed in Alder Hey for a week. Here, he underwent radiotherapy and it was believed the teenager's condition was improving.

In his memory, the Alfie Rafferty Foundation has been set up in Huyton. The charity hopes to help other families across Merseyside going through similar situations.
