Cayetano tells UAAP to protect welfare of student athletes

SEN. Pia Cayetano has reminded the public of a law on the protection of student athletes, after she read reports of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines planning to amend its rule on transferring student athletes.Cayetano on Friday made this announcement after several student athletes, including Forth Padrigao and Rey Remogat, transferred to other UAAP schools.

'I have read news reports on the supposed plans of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines to amend its league rules, which may have an effect on the playing years of transferring student-athletes,' Cayetano said in a statement.'May I remind everyone concerned that Republic Act 10676 or the Student-Athletes Protection Act, which I principally authored and sponsored, explicitly protects the playing years of our student-athletes,' she added.
