Charlotte Church hopes to be the music teacher at the school, 33, has been given the go-ahead for her plans in the plush village of Dinas Powys in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.Former child star Charlotte, who home schools her own children Ruby, 11, and Dexter, 10, wants to "liberate" kids and give them freedom over what they learn.
Pupils would study for qualifications such as GCSEs and BTECs, but Charlotte says the school would "still have lots of creative freedom". Welsh is not currently planned to be taught as a subject - but the pupils would learn the language in a 'Welsh kitchen'.But the plans have been met with fury by well-heeled locals who claim they are worried for the welfare of the pupils.Another raised concerns of traffic building up in the area - with a councillor claiming the road was unsuitable for children to walk along because of the danger of large vehicles.
But Vale of Glamorgan councillors overruled them after seeing plans for parents to park at a nearby bowls club. The school opened two months ago with the first year housed in a temporary two story annex of Charlotte's home before a permanent site is found. The singer added: "Since I've had kids I have become much more interested in education and child development."It started to become apparent that mainstream is struggling with underfunding and overcrowding - teachers are incredibly tested.
