EINDHOVEN, Netherlands - As he cradles his young puppy in his arms, Laurent Simons looks much like any other 9-year-old boy. Then he starts describing his work at a university in the Netherlands, developing a computer circuit that will replicate a part of the brain.
“I’m planning to start my PhD and study a little medicine, but before that vacation,” he said of his post-graduation plans, as 9-week-old puppy Sammy dozed in his mother Lydia’s arms. “The speed of his mind - we cannot imagine what is happening in his head. He’s maybe three times smarter than the smartest student we’ve ever had.”
He is just 9 yrs old, but already smiles like an adult. He will probably be missing a lot about his fellow himan, which is a really bad thing...

This is a clever boy to be sure, but having an IQ of 145 at 9 does not mean you’re cleverer than someone who has an IQ of 145 at 49, that’s just not how IQs work - they take age into account. Completing a degree at 9 is very impressive indeed though.

We chose to have our two children with IQs of 145 and 157 simply enjoy a normal life. They had great accomplishments, like perfect SAT scores in 7th grade, symphonies they wrote performed in public, Stanford Phi Beta Kappa degree, and etc. But they led completely normal lives.
