Footscray West Primary school in the city's inner-west confirmed the school was experiencing issues with its water supply.
"Preliminary results of water quality testing a the school detected e.coli present in the water," Principal Brendan Millar said in a Facebook post addressed to parents and carers."To ensure the health and safety of students and staff, we immediately turned off taps at the school to enable further testing."
Mr Millar said bottled water was being provided to students and portable toilets had been provided while the school waits for the results of additional tests. The school also took the precautionary move to close its canteen today, with students asked to bring their own lunch. "While there is no need for immediate concern, we have been advised that should have any queries about your child's health, it would be advisable to contact your GP," Mr Millar said.
