A consultation process on senior cycle education has found a strong appetite for change among students, parents and teachers who contributed, according to the Economic and Social Research Institute .
They also favoured using a wider variety of methods to assess student performance such as project work, portfolios and presentations. The ESRI says suggestions included work experience placements, and the development of skills such as online safety and handling social media. They say students were particularly vocal about how the pressures of senior cycle affected their stress levels.
Not convinced this is the way to go. Gives advantage to kids who've access to better resources and parents who can help them. And unless assessed by people who don't know them would be very open to corruption and bias.
Continuous assessment is the only way to go imo. After an assignment you walk away with a much deeper understanding of the topic. You also don't have everything riding on one bloody exam. Taken 2 years after you've covered that subject in school. Which is frankly rediculous.
Scrap the whole thing. Participation medals for everyone.
