More than half of students are ready to vote tactically in the general election, with Brexit the key factor, according to research. The analysis from the Higher Education Policy Institute says 53% will vote in a way to maximise the chances of their side of the Brexit divide.Hepi director Nick Hillman says for many students it would be"full-on tactical voting because of Brexit".

The 12 December election date means many students will be back in their family home for Christmas - but they will still have the option to vote in their university constituency, or from their home address. But the polling analysis from Hepi, using data from YouthSight polling firm, shows more students expecting to vote tactically than in the previous election, with Brexit driving much of the decision making. In 2017, there were 47% ready to vote tactically.

Mr Hillman says rather than student-focused issues - such as tuition fees - Brexit seems more influential on voting intentions.

Problem is, a lot of students see the carrot but fail to notice the stick.

And then they grow up.

By voting Dim-limp and getting Tories, as usual, will they ever learn?

The more likely to no vote conservative more like

Yes tactically vote in what is their temporary location. Then leave the poor saps living in that area with an MP that has no intention of working for them.

Polling 1,000 means nothing. Have we not learnt that in recent years?

anyone capable of stringing two sentences together questions the sanity of it.

Tactical voting cannot make a fair election

Do they even know what tactically mean?

It will be the Brexit issue that takes students to the polling stations.

I have yet to meet one who can name the member states of the EU and most of them seem to think it started in the 40s.

Tories are very stupid. They should have brought rigorous quotas into secondary school n university staff long ago to ensure true diversity of thought. Most are staffed with Stalinist authoritarian leftists. We’re now paying the price

What you mean twice

Oh dear, wasting votes on the Green Party etc

If they have any brain cells they will vote labour or even liberal

Their green and innocent minds are most often radical. Falling for every good intention and nice sounding sentiment. Youth, inexperience, a general lack of wisdom and the harshness of reality, can make a mockery of democracy.

Our grand daughter told us yesterday that she is voting Conservatives to make sure UKLabour DON’T get in & to get Brexit done. So are her friends. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

see the UK is raising idiot children as well. Prefer slavery to freedom because they don't understand what's at stake. Ignorance is widespread.

You mean that is what you are telling them to do

Are these the same students who go out and get wasted on a weekend 🤪

Do we really need BREXIT?
