RUSTENBURG - The North West department of tourism spent R4.4 million on a boom gate system and R3.4 million on a fence at the Taung Hotel School it bought for R5 million, the provincial standing committee on public accounts said on Monday.
"It is inexplicable on how the construction of just the gate and the fence is over the amount that the hotel was bought for. Someone must be held accountable as there is also poor workmanship at the project," committee chairperson Job Dliso said. "The Independent Development Trust also warned the department on escalation of the prices yet it failed on their oversight," Dliso said.
He said the irregularities at the unfinished project were worrying as the prices escalated without any concurrence with provincial treasury. This was revealed at the Public Finance Management Act public hearings for the 2018/19 audit reports.
Where is 'Thuma mina'
I’d build you a electric boom gate with number plate recognition tec for about R 500000.00 and still take R150000.00 profit it’s a joke
Black leadership will be the death of us, but thuma mina
Where is consequence management? People who failed in their oversight duties must pay back a portion of that money from their own pocket. It is easy to spend money that isn't yours.
What? Only R4.4 million? Should have been double so I could cash in!
This country is a joke
Zuma was labelled as corrupt
You pay R3.5m AND you get shoddy work for it. How wonderful it must be to work with other people's money if you are incompetent or just plain skelm.
Can Great Britain just recolonise us again? or put this country under administration for five years-nyana...I want to see something
🤣
ANC voters deserve their poverty.

Politicians are fooling us
