Video shows Oregon coach disarming student then embracing him before police arrive

Stunning surveillance footage captured the moment a high school coach in Oregon disarmed a student with a shotgun and then held him in his arms.

When he next emerges, he is holding a shotgun and backing away from student Angel Granados-Diaz before another teacher comes up and takes the weapon away.At one point, it appears that Granados-Diaz tries to break free, but Lowe continues to hold on to him.Lowe was hailed a hero following the incident at the Portland high school.

Initial reports said that Lowe wrestled the student to the ground, but the video, which was released by Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, shows the emotional moment the two shared.

I want to know more about the story. Those hugs look kind of familiar. How well did the coach know the student? Was she binging the gun to shoot him specifically? Regardless, he did a good job of diffusing the situation and keeping her calm.

That was a roller coaster journey! The kid was hurt, confused, angry, sad, and needed an emotive connection all at once. I don’t think any “trained” human being could have handled that situation any better. Remove the threat, defuse the situation, and then add a human touch.
