Briones, in her message for the 2019 WTD celebration, wished more than 800,000 Filipino teachers under the DepEd a “happy and fruitful” teachers’ day. The WTD is celebrated across the globe every October 5. In the Philippines, the National Teachers’ Day is also celebrated on the same day as the WTD. Meanwhile, the WTD and NTD celebrations serve as a culminating activity for the National Teachers’ Month which started last September 5.
Briones noted that “amid the challenges brought about by all these developments,” teachers “remain steadfast in your mission to hone the country’s future leaders and nation-builders.” She also commended the teachers for “managing, guiding, listening, leading, counseling, advising, and facilitating learning in a way that no robots, holograms, or smartboards can do.”
Meanwhile, DepEd has also partnered with various establishments to provide a “simple token of gratitude to teachers” as part of the NTM, NTD and WTD celebrations which include PHLPOST – “Salamat Po Teacher” letter writing raffle promo, open to the public, Kindergarten to Grade 12 from September 2019 to March 2020 as well as discounted rates that teachers can avail of in various establishments such as museums, theme parks and others.
“While we are thankful for the P1, 000 Teachers’ Day incentive for we consider this as a birthday gift, we ask the DepEd to raise the level of our teachers by providing for long-term solutions to our socio-economic woes,” said Teachers’ Dignity Coalition National Chairperson Benjo Basas.
