Tuaran district police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said on Wednesday that the 14-year-old victim claimed she was raped at least five times in July this year by the suspect at their home in a village in Tuaran.
He said the girl claimed that her stepfather raped her in her room, either in the day or night, five times in the month of July when there was no one in the house.DSP Hamizi said at about 1.05am on Monday , police tracked down the suspect at a restaurant in Kota Kinabalu and arrested him in connection with the report. He said the suspect was working at a bus company for a tourist resort in Kota Belud.He added that police were investigating the suspect for statutory rape.
If convicted under Section 376 of the Penal Code, the suspect could face no less then eight years to 30 years jail and whipped up to 10 strokes of the rotan. “The district police take serious view on sex-related assaults, particularly involving children. We hope the public would come forward if they are aware of such crimes, ” he added.
