The Kilkenny freelancer died in Waterford University Hospital on Saturday after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Pat had spent many years working for papers in his hometown before contributing to national news outlets across the country. Irish Mirror Picture Editor Zoe Watson said: “Pat was a true gentleman and nothing was ever too much trouble for him.“Throughout his treatment he had remained upbeat and in good humour anytime I called. Even when he must have been suffering terribly, he would be laughing and joking.
“I always knew that when I phoned Pat to ask him to do a job it wasn’t going to be a quick two minute conversation. He was always up for a chat and would keep me on the phone all morning.“Pat had a great passion for photography and a good eye for a photo but it was probably his charm which allowed him to get pictures where others couldn’t.As well as photography, Pat loved soccer and had been both a scout and talented coach in the past.
