Federal investigation finds Chicago schools' handling of sex abuse complaints 'tragic and inexcusable.'

FILE - In this July 16, 2015, file photo, Janice Jackson, chief executive officer for Chicago Public Schools, appears at a news conference in Chicago. Federal education officials called Chicago Public Schools' handling of sexual abuse complaints "tragic and inexcusable" and outlined legally-binding corrective steps after a systemic investigation of the nation's third-largest school district.

CHICAGO — Chicago Public Schools will overhaul how it handles sexual abuse complaints after a federal investigation found “tragic and inexcusable” problems following student complaints, the U.S. Department of Education announced Thursday. “The Chicago Public Schools have inexcusably failed, for quite some time, to provide their students with the basic protections required by law,” Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kenneth Marcus said in a statement. “These issues must be addressed to ensure that all students in Chicago Public Schools have an opportunity to learn in a safe educational environment free from the threat of sexual harassment or sexual assault.

The review noted that the district failed to respond quickly to complaints, didn’t offer services to alleged victims or notify them of the results of investigations and didn’t take steps to provide a safe environment for all students. The district also didn’t have a Title IX coordinator from 1999 to 2018, which is required by law, and had poor record-keeping, according to the investigation.

Any famous current or past politicians (R or D) from the Chicago area wanna take a crack out how they let this go on during their watch? We can’t just hold one side to our views. Everyone is accountable.

I feel sexual assault is a matter for the police... Not for school administrators. They just don't have the expertise and resources required to investigate properly and respect the rights of all parties as they do so. We are asking too much of schools. Let them teach!

We have to be more excepting of the culture. Like shooting up your own neighbors. We could never understand their ways so we have to lower our standards of decency.

I'd expect this sort of thing from a church. But not from a school system!

Did you expect anything else out of Chicago?

They got caught red handed. The school will now overhaul so the culprits never get caught again

And so many want more and bigger dysfunctional government

Democrats in control of Chicago schools. Open borders for sex-trafficking. Seeing a pattern.

Teacher’s Unions tend to cover up everything; and Chicago is one of the worst. To willing graduates students that are functionally illiterate is morally reprehensible. Covering up sex abuse too? No surprise there.

Like any other gov institution

Goes with their political stance. God help the citizens being their elected officials won’t

What DOES work in Chicago?🤔
