I learnt how to create when outside of my comfort zone, new country, new culture, I knew no one! I suppose I learnt how to make the most of nothing, literally running up to strangers in the subway asking them to model for my projects. I also learnt how to push my textile experimentation to the Nth degree! I had never explored fabrics or made my own materials in the way I did before this programme so I'm really glad that happened.
My biggest influences for my final collection was looking at Mata Hari and Ruth St Denis, and interpreting that within the context of my own life experiences. At large, my own self was an influence! I basically performed memories from my life whilst capturing shots on camera. My collection is basically a performative result of the 5 cities I have lived in throughout my life, and the memories attached to it . I wanted my work to be as true to my identity and culture as possible.
