Jason O'Toole: Catholic school banning Harry Potter books is truly bizarre

The old adage about truth being stranger than fiction jumped to mind the other day when a Catholic primary school in Nashville made global headlines for banning Harry Potter.

These priests are away with the fairies if they honestly believe Harry Potter books are a force for evil. This astonishing figure meant the Italian priest, who was an official exorcist for the Vatican, would’ve needed to carry out an average of nine a day – including Sundays, which stretches credulity.

It inspired me to pursue a journalism career and even write eight books – including my new one entitled Hollywood Irish out this month. You could perhaps dismiss it if it was a one-off incident, but many others in the Church are also on the same page about Harry Potter novels being fraught with danger.
