Cape Town - The African Christian Democratic Party on Tuesday extended its condolences to the Mrwetyana family following the rape and murder of University of Cape Town student Uyinene Mrwetyana, saying "it is high time our justice protected women and children".

“It is with much regret that we as a nation are faced with so much brutality and violence that is targeted at our women and children. The justice system needs to act swiftly and decisively on those that are found guilty of such gruesome crimes.” The accused, who allegedly confessed to the crime, had led investigators to where he had reportedly dumped her body in Lingelethu West. He was charged with murder, rape and defeating the ends of justice.
