Norman Sievers, principal at Lorien Novalis School, a Rudolf Steiner co-educational school in Dural, says the early childhood to year 12 school has been teaching students so-called 'soft skills' long before they were given the moniker. He also said the school has had a phone ban, which was recently implemented across all NSW public primary schools, for as long as he can remember.

There are 1300 Steiner schools around the world and 50 in Australia, which meet the national curriculum requirements and are recognised by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority. The school splits its day into three sections, with all academic content covered in the morning, cultural and arts lessons in the afternoon and hands-on sessions in technology, construction, craft, and gardening at the end of the day.
