Hong Kong students in Australia fear there will be further violent clashes with pro-China students, as universities increase security and insist free speech remains key.

"Tensions between Hong Kong and mainland China students are only poised to worsen as time goes on," the 19-year-old from Hong Kong said. "Wherever we did it, the posters are torn down really quickly and some mainland students confront and argue with us, even if we clearly say we aren’t making Hong Kong independent," Mr Chui said.
