Hong Kong students in Australia fear there will be further violent clashes with pro-China students, as universities increase security and insist free speech remains key.

Dennis Chui, left, and Silver Lee stand with the Lennon Wall they helped construct at the University of Technology, Sydney.Hong Kong student leaders in Australia, including Dennis Chui from the University of Sydney, said the physical clashes that marred a protest at the University of Queensland could happen elsewhere.

"Tensions between Hong Kong and mainland China students are only poised to worsen as time goes on," the 19-year-old from Hong Kong said. "Wherever we did it, the posters are torn down really quickly and some mainland students confront and argue with us, even if we clearly say we aren’t making Hong Kong independent," Mr Chui said.
