Students received £134 a month on average from their parents. However, the survey also found that one in three of the students asked felt that their parents did not give enough financial support, either because they were unable to or did not want to.As a result, nearly four in five worried about making ends meet, while 57% said they suffered poor mental health because of money worries - up 11% from the previous year.

Holly Skyrme, a human geography student at the University of Leeds, says that creating her own mini-business has helped not only her finances, but also eased the pressures felt by many at university. She says she can make hundreds of pounds a time selling unwanted items at car boot sales, or on internet auction sites, and she has a regular income from selling beauty and health products at parties.

Poor girl, she’s so stressed her hair has turned colour.

I supported myself entirely through Grade 12 and NAIT. It’s nice to have a side-hustle. I worked for NAITSA and NAIT and any job I could to get by. I didn’t have much self-esteem to be a server, so I worked in the kitchen. I was very poor. Alberta paid/pays women poorly.

These poor students have join the ranks of students in the US. Parents and student loans just don’t cover the costs of university studies. Here in the US the students are encumbered with astronomical student loan debt in exchange for a college degrees.

Cut the number of students and pointless courses. There’ll be enough money to reduce costs or make the remaining courses free
