The mother of a boy killed in a horrific Cranbourne crash has sent her love to the family of the driver.

The teenage boy killed in Sunday's horrific double-fatal crash got into the stolen car only minutes before it spun out of control to avoid catching a bus in the pouring rain, his devastated mother says.

The 20-year-old driver allegedly tried to run from the crash scene, leaving the victims behind, but he was stopped and restrained by a passerby. The driver is now under police guard in hospital. Nicole said Byron had been at home before getting into the car and believed he was not aware it had been stolen.

"I want to give my love to the family of the driver as well because I know that they'll be suffering a lot through this time as much as we are."Renee added: "He had some of his closest friends in that vehicle and, from my understanding, cared deeply about each and every person in that vehicle. I don't feel it's malicious ... I just [think] he's young and I don't think anyone knows how they're going to react until you're in that situation.

She said the tight-knit group of friends who knew Byron and Jordy was struggling to process the news. “We’re doing everything we can today to support anyone who might be affected by this news," principal Amadeo Ferra said.

Joining a car stealing acquaintance is a very poor choice but some do grow up to regret it interminably, like it was total brain fade.
