, teachers across the U.S. have mounted large-scale strikes in recent years, demanding higher pay, better working conditions and better learning conditions for their students.

This is the 51st year PDK has conducted the survey but this is the first year teachers have been asked about their plans to quit. Joan Richardson, who oversaw the poll, says it's clear that the teaching profession is becoming less attractive to Americans. High school teachers were the most likely to say they have considered quitting, with 61% saying they have thought about leaving the profession. "I am not just considering it. I am getting out," said one teacher quoted in the report.

wardelliott8 MakeIt Pay. So. They get 3 months off. They get all holidays off and some others what not days off. They start out at 20 grand. Hmm add that up plus other benefits.

MakeIt As someone with family who are teachers, and who came very close to becoming fully certified myself (before saying “fuck this noise”)... yeah that checks out. America treats its educators like absolute filth, so naturally they’re miserable and want to quit.

MakeIt I’m gonna go on a limb and say that way over 50% of all people have considered quitting over inadequate pay, stress, and not feeling respected. This is not exclusive to teachers, it’s called being an employed adult.

MakeIt So that is different from any other job how

MakeIt i left teaching early because.. the policy of my board was to pair the weak with the strong and i got tired as a strong hard working teacher of being partnered by the principal with alcoholic and dysfunctional teachers who needed to be fired but the union was too strong..

MakeIt Teachers Unions eat their young. Large % of their compensation goes to pensions and don’t see rewards til they retire. Average Teacher total compensation 585 a day in our district.

MakeIt We're in a position where I don't have to work anymore, I still teach because I LOVE what I do, who I do with, & who I do it for, but I'm not gonna lie & say I don't toy with the idea of quitting when the parents are overly disrespectful & the stress is too high! 😫

MakeIt sad for teachers but what about student are they joke to you guys ?

MakeIt Are teachers idiots? Did any of them know the pay scale before they took the jobs? I did, my friends did. Are teachers surprised by their income on the first payday after they start working?
