First District Councilor Victor Ferrer expressed fears that the sheer number of students who waded through the flooded streets and whose homes were submerged by the rainwater during the week-long typhoon could be infected by air-borne diseases like influenza A mosquito carrying disease like dengue, water-borne illness leptospirosis, and other similar ailments.
If possible, Ferrer said that he also wants the city health department to dispatch additional medical teams in the city’s barangays severely affected by the recent heavy to complement the city’s health centers. He also asked local school authorities to vigorously promote proper handwashing to the school children to inculcate to them its importance in preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
Ferrer asked the city government to provide ample supply of hygienic resources like soaps, toilet papers and the cleaning materials in public schools to maintain a healthy environment.
