Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Saturday condemned the alleged rape of a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, by some soldiers attached to a military checkpoint in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the victim was allegedly forced to alight from a commercial bus and dragged into a cubicle at the back of the checkpoint, where she was allegedly assaulted sexually.The Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Akure, Ondo State, Brig. Gen. Zakari Abubakar said the affected soldiers had been arrested while the army had commenced an investigation into the matter.
The statement said, “We shall do all within our powers to fight this bizarre menace of rape in the state. Rapists or those who wish to traverse this ignobly desecrating path will find Ondo State too hot as a refuge for such nefarious act. Government shall be firm and decisive.”
