Washington Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is introducing a bill Tuesday that would cancel the student loan debts of tens of millions of Americans, a plan she first proposed on the campaign trail in April.
The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate is partnering with South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, also a Democrat, who will sponsor companion legislation in the House. For those earning more than $100,000, the bill would offer partial debt relief with the amount getting gradually smaller until it phases out. Households that make more than $250,000 are not eligible for any debt relief.

I'm just going to try to tell this to you all gently: If you have a debt forgiven, it must be counted as income on that year's taxes. That means that you will owe taxes on an extra $50,000

Student debt is a choice. The National Guard (NJ for ex) pays 100% tuition for in state schools most sates are similar. Too much then there's 3+1 programs where you can get a bachelors degree for less than 30k cheaper than a new car.

Fo, I paid for 3 kids to go to college loan free on a RN salary. One more semester for kid 3. Cancelling student debt is absurd. This is a state issue. They should have partial forgiveness if a student works for 5 years in their state regardless of income.
And still no conversations on why the cost of college educations has been twice the rate of inflation for decades. Writing blank checks to higher ed programs is a huge part of the problem and this will only feed the fire.

Why should I have to help people who over extend themselves on school loans? My cousins daughter worked the whole time she went to Duquesne University Pharmacy school. Finished top in her class and had no loan debt when she finished.
