When Oregon students go back to school this year, they'll be able to take mental health days without risking an unexcused absence because of a new law that was proposed by a group of high schoolers

The legislation, which Gov. Kate Brown signed last month, lets students have an excused absence if they miss school because of their mental or behavioral health.Sam Adamson, from left, Lori Riddle, Hailey Hardcastle and Derek Evans at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. Students from across the state came up with the idea at a leadership camp last year and worked with lobbyists and mental health professionals to push for the change.

But it would leave her feeling overworked.

It found that 825 people died by suicide that year. Suicide was the second leading cause of death in Oregon for 15- to 24-year-olds and the third leading cause of death for children 5 to 14.

If they need mental days then I'd be putting then in help center what morons signed this bill

And Monday morning half the student class don't show up.😉👍

Wait till they work in the real world and don’t get days off for free!

🤔 Why does the phrase 'candy-asses' come to mind? Fewer students per school campus, and fewer students per class (and without shrinking the square footage of campuses or classrooms!) is the answer. Not making kids into snowflakes. Limit 400 per campus; 12 per classroom. 😘

'Mental health days' the new buzzterm for oops, i didnt study for that test or oops i slept in and all round just not take responsibility for your actions

This is ridiculous. When I was a kid if we were “triggered” we didn’t get to hide in our “safe spaces.” If we got stressed we sucked it up, pulled ourself up by our bootstraps, and developed deep chemical dependency issues to cover up our emotions.

Not prepared for Test day? Bingo

Snowflake days

Any kid the takes a Mental Health Day, should be sent to Marine Boot camp for a year.

Can the teachers take them too?

Not the brightest generation after all

K

Wow this is a joke right? So when they r older and life gets tough they can do the same?

I see lots Friday and Monday “mental health” days. And on big test days. It’s like they’re trying to instill victim mentality in kids.

The new “wimp” generation!

.

.,..

Wait until they try that at work.

Faaaaarrrrrrrt

So later in life when there stressed about work and paying bills and cant handle reality, they have a mental break down and harm themselves or worse other. How weak humans have become.

Lots of folks whining about 'in the real world..' well if your point is that the 'real world' is not as accommodating, then that says more about us adults and the kind of world we've allowed these kids to come into.We could insist on mental health days in the work place but won't

Because high school is hard man 🤔🤨😆. Yes. It can be a pain in the ass so love and support your kids. Listen to them. Let them know they exist. We’ll be fine. ❤️🇺🇸❤️🌎

If they’re getting actual treatment for depression, anxiety, or other diagnosed issues, sure. If they’re just feeling a little blue... well, then suck it up like the rest of us, buttercup.

I just swallowed a whole lifesaver! Good thing it was the gummi version

Great idea give kids in high school mental health days so when they get into the real world they realize they get none they’ll have no idea how to deal with it or Cope.

all the grumpy folks commenting 'snowflakes': also think putting mental health as a priority shows weakness, so never learned how to understand their feelings and therefore struggle to deal with anger and jealousy

More pandering for a sissy generation 🤦‍♂️

Boomers:

FBDO

Because a trophy every time is so stressful.

School used to be a privilege. Now that it's mandatory, everyone has forgotten what a gift knowledge can be. You can't mandate wisdom.

Amazing!!!

That’s it I’ve given up on that generation we must purge 😈

Goce me a break

Because children are always responsible and would never dream of taking advantage of a stupid rule. Good call left coast.

What do the teachers get for having to deal with the babies in class? Underpaid that's what they get. This crap is on the parents not the teachers.

Slow news day at the shitrag? Saw this yesterday

Alternative headline: Oregon school students are pansies.

I don’t know how we managed back in the the 70 and 80s without all that. I prolly would’ve been absent a lot. Lol

I’m sure they would also like security blankets to hold all day, support pets in school with them and be able to dismiss any teacher that disagrees with them. Poor things, more hugs are needed. Give me a freakin break . What BS, pansy asses.

I have a great niece who was at the Roseburg College during the shooting. ABYSMAL job at support. They abandoned those students.

Sorina _please help us😤😰😭😪😢🙏

Wed Nov 4, 2020 will be a bad mental health day for these snowflakes.

Br00ks3ySmil3 teenagers give themselves mental health days?

In my day, it was called, “I don’t feel like going to school today. “ You either didn’t go or you realized that missing the day was going to adversely affect your grades, a project, your progress etc. and you went anyway, even though you weren’t feeling well. Good times.

I need another dimension Don't like where I be Little of it seems real In the universe of me Mental health, mental wish Brainwashed or just can't see Each of us, a world Perception is reality Conservatives latimes nytimes FoxAndFriends

Keep them stupid, keep them dumb ... he who gains the youth gains the future! Libtardian policies at work right here!!

Well that takes the fun out of skipping class

Hope there’s a support system in place, if they need it.

Good.

Lol

If you have to go to a psychiatric clinic that is one thing. But this sounds like a law the will be maliciously abused

The wussification of America continues. Let me guess...the group of high schoolers who proposed this are Liberals. BetTheMortgage

That’s a great way for kids to learn work ethic for the real world. The future generation of our country is scaring me.

Maybe now kids will stop murdering their classmates? Probably not.

We called it skipping

We have truly list our soul as a Country. No rules, no laws. ANARCHY IS TEED UP......😎

So every Saturday and Sunday of the year isn’t enough?

Find out who has taken any of these days...either fire them or put on a Do Not hire list

Mental health days... Jesus H. This country is raising nothing more than weak robots now.

If your mind can’t even handle High school, how will you survive the real world?🤔

Definitely a liberal thing. It's a soy state.

da fuq? When I needed a mental health day I just told my mom I felt sick. why do we need this?

I’m impressed ✊🏽💯💯

Pretty soon there will be no grades.

LMAO, those poor kids. When they have to go into the real world they will go into shock.

So stunning, so brave...

My BFF allowed her children three “For whatever reason” days a school year. (More parent involvement). Why not figure out the cause for the need. (Hint: you’re holding it.) Give teachers 10 days. (Or, more pay).

Next it will be ok in their jobs in the state. The lunacy of the left never ends

It’s called Saturday and Sunday. Wait till the real world hits you.

Snowflakes

❤️

Class of 1984. Hell's Kitchen school. 4 years of classes without even a/c in the rooms. Won my only fist fight. Played hooky and played video games. I turned out alright without a 'Mental Health Day.' 😜

RadioDana I know your left leaning Liberal Dana but their alot of crazy Liberal in Portland and Seattle. They fine you $1,025 if you litter with a cigarette but have homeless problem that leaves trash and human waste all over public areas.

This is so smart, to acknowledge the importance of mental health days when students know they need a break. When my kids were in high school we did the same. As long as they didn't have a test or something important, they could stay home when they said they needed it. Good! 👍

I wished had this when I was still in school smh

Awe😢

Can this generation any softer?

Why can’t it just be days off. Why ‘mental’ days off?

Good.

If you baby these kids so much they'll never survive in the real world, let them figure it out themselves and toughen up, the real world ain't gonna show them mercy.

Too bad these kids will have to face reality when they graduate. They will hate the school system for babying them. I’m sure it’s sooo hard to be a teen nowadays. Most of their problems are self inflicted. 🤣

My god

Make sense) 💪

Back when I was in those institutions, we had both good and bad days. We dealt with the bad days. This seems to be a liberal excuse for not facing up to the truth that the day is rotten to the core. What's next on their insane agenda to not acknowledge reality?

Is this program available for house democrats/socialist?

First dibs on mental health in schools goes to whom?

what is there 285 days of school if I am not mistaken....so that being said I can see where some kids will have that many MentalHealthDays

God help us. What are we raising?

How many per year?

Those lazy millenials just wanna play more videogames and stuff. They should lay off the soda and focus on there studies, so that they don't have to rely on other people's money.

Another step toward mediocrity!

GallowayMaegan

Thank goodness attendance is part of your permanent record. This makes it easy for me to weed out the people that aren't going to show up to work.

When the going gets tough, take a mental health day.

I want to wish these ridiculous teenagers good luck when they try this at a job

CNN should adopt this for their employees!

Can't wait until they have to get a job.

😐😐😐😐

Employees need that too. Don’t ya think?

Inmates running the asylum.

So now in Oregon of the 180 days of school students only have to go 100 days ? 110 days?. Students now run the schools and get to 'determine' how many days they 'feel' like attending.

Sad

If high school is too much for you, adult life is going to destroy you.

WhoisNils over under how many days ya boy would have taken my senior year?

Unbelievable. Maybe the students could just get someone else to go to school for them, so that they won't damage themselves.

I was lucky to have a Mom that let me take mental health days. I pretended to be 'sick' but we both knew I wasn't. Lots of kids pretend to be sick because they need a mental health day. That's all this is.

This is amazing! Love this. I hope other states follow in this pattern. Amazing concept to treat children as human beings!

Softer and softer. Pad those safe space rooms. weneedmoredodgeball

To all the naysayers: Do you have children? Did you go thru the pressure of social media? Theirs is a different world and they talk about their feelings. Better than bottling them up. I wouldnt want to be a teen now.....walk a mile b4 reacting.

The weak get weaker

odonnellchloe0 you should get this going here

Everybody is so fragile these days

horsehockey, that's what summers are for, as well as weekends, numerous holidays and excused absences if you're ill. Stop the pampering.

Democrats & MSM so called staff should also do that.

The next generation is doomed

Will they have any somebody hurt my little feelings days to

Let California, Oregon and Washington, secede then everyone will be happy...

Everyone in OR deserve mental health days. They need to reflect on how they are destroying their cities & the country with their radical Antifa support!

This is so good very much needed!!

Grooming them to fail in real life. How long do you think they’ll last in a job if they keep asking for days off because they don’t feel like coming in. I’ve had workers call in and say they’re “not feeling it” today. Well, they’re not working anymore.

High school is not that stressful. Unless colleges implement this then this is not going to help these kids in any way

Now that’s stupid and exactly why today’s youth are so weak and expect everything for free

I’m sure this new policy won’t be abused at all.

Ridiculous that high school needs mental health days. Way to prepare them for the real world.
