Housed in the new $23 million, 55,000-square-foot Jerry & Gene Jones Family Student-Athlete Success Center, Arkansas’ sports nutrition department spares no expense in feeding its athletes. Members of any sports team, even those not on scholarship, are provided two meals a day, in an effort to “fuel and refuel” the athletes.
“We spend a lot of money on it,” says Arkansas’ Director of Sports Nutrition Karla Horfsal. “We understand how important it is to invest in our student-athletes, and that’s one area where it’s not like we’re making money back by feeding our athletes. I know for me personally, that’s something to be proud of, and I know that that’s something that our entire department really supports.
“We all know everyone on the football team loves pizza, burgers and chicken tenders,” says Jessica Blatcheley, Sodexo’s executive chef for sports performance at West Virginia University. “I’m absolutely still going to give my football players a pizza, because that’s what is going to keep their body weight up, which is really important. A lot of guys come up to me at breakfast, and then I’ll see the same guy at dinner, and they’ll be like, ‘Ooh, good practice today, I lost 10 pounds.
Pay the players
derek_saul Exceptional effort.
Good thing the Razorbacks have that pepsi money to burn.
After 2015, no Arkansas athlete can say we weren’t eating good. Jones center days were the best of my life 😂😂
