At his high school graduation, Jack Higgins approached the stage to receive his diploma with his fingers in his ears to block what he thought would be applause and cheers.
Instead, he was met by silence.Higgins is a familiar face in the cafeteria, library, hallways and classrooms of Carmel High School, and he's well-known there. He has a severe form of autism and is sensitive to noise. After eight years in the school's program for students with cognitive, learning or behavior challenges, he was ready to graduate on June 20.

My brother does this too. He doesnt like loud noises. Even the rain and thunder bothers him. I couldnt have balloons at my birthday party cause if someone busted it , it would hurt his ears. Im glad they did this for their fellow classmate

After a morning of hateful comments about the ICE raids and detention facilities seeing this brought tears to my eyes. These students exemplify what truly makes our country great.
This is a measure of the youths who will inherit the Earth. We, the kids from the 50's/60's, have to teach r failures to said kids. Yes, as we indulged in new tech, I know I failed to think about my 14 yr olds future. May the Great Spirit help Earth's Children. We've left a mess.

That is beautiful that his schoolmates acknowledged it! When I worked for PTA we would wave small flags for recipients of awards that had autism. That was a wonderful moment. When reading this remembered that and now the tears won't stop. True beauty in this world is rare ❤

Did the autistic kid know or care The focus is on the generosity of the fellow students who accommodated him...it says nothing of the autistic guy's reaction. Give love and praise to those who work with them. They are often incapable of gratitude.
