MOSCOW — A young Russian woman has been fined under a recently introduced "contempt of authorities" administrative regulation after she published an Instagram video of herself performing a dance., a university student from the city of Bryansk, was fined 30,000 rubles after sharing the video, in which she dances in front of a World War II monument.
Chervyakova's behavior was "in an indecent form and insulted human dignity and public moral," according to the ruling, which was published on a local court's website. Many in Russia view the regulation as an attempt to protect local and federal authorities from criticism on social media. The first person sentenced under the regulation two months ago was a Volga region resident who allegedly published a social media post that a local court ruled was disrespectful of president Vladimir Putin.
