SALT LAKE CITY — The family of a University of Utah student shot on campus sued the institution on Thursday, saying officials have refused to take responsibility for missing chances to prevent her death despite multiple reports to police.
Jill and Matthew McCluskey have said university police and housing officials failed to take her case seriously enough and act on warnings that her ex-boyfriend was dangerous. The university has pledged to act on the report's findings, but authorities didn't discipline anyone. On Oct. 12, she told university police that Rowland's friends appeared to be trying to lure her off campus into a trap with fake texts. In the subsequent days, she reported he was extorting her by threatening to post compromising photos of her online.
This murder was so senseless, I hope the school is forced to make changes
Male privilege doesn’t exist. This, that recent story from Alabama, and Kavanaugh proved it.
BS, not the fault of a school. The parents should not have allowed her to date a killer.
“...she dumped him because he lied about his name, age and status as a sex offender.”
It wasn’t an ex boyfriend. They went on a few dates. He lied about his name and stole her car. Nothing in the relationship was honest. She was never NOT in danger from this man.
Since we are on the topic of school, any teacher that brushes off bullying or makes the victim the bad guy needs to be fired.
